 How are lease renewals determined?
The Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority reviews lease renewals to ensure the State is getting the best possible return from public assets in the precinct. There is no automatic right to renewal of a lease. The Authority may at its discretion:

  • put the property to market at the end of the lease term, in which case the existing tenant is not prevented from making an offer.
  • withdraw the property from the leasing market or
  • renew the lease to the existing tenant At all times the Authority acts in accordance with its legal obligations as Landlord.

How are heritage properties managed by the Authority?
The Authority is committed to ensuring the conservation of heritage items under its care and management. Decisions about the care, maintenance and development of heritage items are guided by conservation management plans prepared for individual properties. The Authority employs specialist staff who liaise with stakeholders to ensure that works are undertaken in accordance with government guidelines and best conservation practice.
