The Rocks Program for Renewal
The Rocks Program for Renewal is a five-year work plan to strengthen the economic success of The Rocks while conserving and promoting its heritage values.
In doing so it will strengthen The Rocks' international competitiveness as Australia’s pre-eminent heritage precinct, support the NSW Government’s economic and cultural objectives and integrate the delivery of economic, heritage, public domain and place management work. The Department of Finance, Services and Innovation Corporate Plan has identified delivery of The Rocks Program for Renewal as a priority.
The Rocks holds a special place in the hearts of Australians and plays a significant role in upholding Sydney as a global city. It already attracts 14.1 million local and international visitors who contribute $400 million a year to the NSW economy - and yet it has the potential to be better, to play an even greater role in positioning Sydney on the international stage.
The program starts with a vision: To deliver one of the most envied heritage destinations in the world. In delivering the vision, the work plan sets out to achieve a precinct with:
- Vibrant retail and creative industries
- Heritage that is conserved and interpreted for maximum appeal
- Distinctive quality public spaces
- A sense of place with world class activations
- Better connections and access to its special places
