Pyrmont and Ultimo are suburbs of the City of Sydney. Formerly industrial areas for much of the 20th century, they have been substantially renewed into benchmark foreshore living communities.
Between 1999 - 2009, Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority was the lead agency in delivering the NSW Government's renewal vision to transform Pyrmont Ultimo. This work included master planning, detailed design development and land disposal.
Milestones acheived by Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority
- 1999 - SHFA assumes all responsibilities of the previous development agency, City West Development Corporation.
- 2004 - the restoration of the historic Jones Bay Wharf completes and the Wharf, now including iconic businesses like Flying Fish Restaurant, opens to the public.
- 2004 - SHFA commences the first of many transfers of newly created public park and walkway to the City of Sydney.
- 2009 - Darling Island, SHFA's final project in Pyrmont, completes.
SHFA handed care control and management of most planning and public domain concerns in the Pyrmont Ultimo area to the City of Sydney in 2005. The Authority still manages public domain at Darling Island.
