Darling Island comprises 4.9 hectares of prime, waterfront land with uninterrupted views back to the CBD and north to the Harbour Bridge. It includes premium residential apartments, high grade commercial offices, and public walkways and parks.
Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority acquired the site in 1999 and transformed a former loading wharf into a world-class contemporary addition to Sydney's foreshore urban spaces. The buildings on site were designed to maximise sustainable technologies and included the first 6 Green Star building in Australia.
Milestones achieved by the Authority
- 1999-2004: Public consultation and design development
- 2004-06: Completion of Stage 1 and 2
- 2009: Stage 3 (Workplace 6) completed, creating Australia's first 6 Green Star commercial building.
The public walkway and open spaces areas of Darling Island are still owned and managed by the Authority.
