Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority owns some of the State’s most significant assets. As the Leasing and Property Manager SHFA is responsible for over 200 leases, 150 licenses and 115 tenancies.

Our renewal role


Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority works collaboratively with State and local government, industry groups and private sector investors to facilitate the NSW Government’s infrastructure and urban renewal strategy. Through coordination and delivery of major projects and activations, SHFA provides visitor, business and transport experiences worthy of iconic harbour locations. Current projects include the new International Convention Centre Sydney, IMAX theatre, office and function centre redevelopment and the Cockle Bay wharf renewal project.

Our activation role


Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority delivers vibrant visitor experiences, best practice heritage management and interpretation, and retail and commercial revitalisations that help attract more than 41 million visitors a year to the precincts and places it manages. A member of the Department of Premier and Cabinet’s major event committee, SHFA is integral to the delivery of State significant events, like Australia Day and New Year’s Eve, and delivers an annual program of events and activations in Darling Harbour and The Rocks.

  • Darling Harbour Instagram Top 10

    Month of Love marketing a winner three years in a row.

    A postcard promoting Darling Harbour's 'Month of Love–an annual celebration of love in all its forms—has won an industry award for the third year in a row. The free postcard, which was distributed to cafes and entertainment venues by Avant Card, has set a record; no other campaign has won ‘Postcard of the Month’ two years in a row, let alone three. The award judge, a senior figure in the marketing and advertising world, praised the 'simple, clever, eye-catching' design that made people want to pick up the postcard, which is now in the running for Avant Card's 'Postcard of the Year' award.

  • Darling Harbour Instagram Top 10

    Darling Harbour makes Instagram and Facebook Top 10 for 2015

    For the second year running, Darling Harbour has been announced as the second-most geo-tagged Australian location on Instagram. The family-friendly precinct has also been named the third most checked-in Australian place on Facebook in 2015—a fantastic result, given the exciting transformation the precinct is currently undergoing.

  • Interpretation Australia Award

    SHFA shines at Interpretation Australia Awards

    SHFA has won two Best of Excellence Awards from Interpretation Australia, for The Emperor's Quest—a self-guided Chinese zodiac adventure at Darling Harbour’s Chinese Garden of Friendship—and The Rocks Boatshed, a temporary interactive arts and culture ‘festival hub’ for Corroboree Sydney 2014. Interpretation Australia is an organisation that celebrates the promotion of heritage and historic places. The awards recognise outstanding achievement in interpretation.

  • Circular Quay Upgrade

    Darling Harbour Alliance recognised for making NSW a better place to do business

    Finalists for the 2015 Premier's Award were published this week and Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority's partnership with the Darling Harbour Alliance is among them.

    SHFA initiated the public-private partnership to keep Darling Harbour open for business during its transformation, by giving people more reasons to visit. Winners will be announced on 17 November.

  • Circular Quay Upgrade

    Upgrade to Circular Quay and new arrangements for SHFA

    A major upgrade to Circular Quay has been announced, along with a change to SHFA’s role in the future management of Sydney’s harbour foreshore areas. The changes reflect government's broader reform agenda, which focuses on taking a whole-of-government approach to service delivery.

    The Rocks leasing success

    Commercial and retail interest in The Rocks is soaring as new tenants continue to join the precinct. A new lease with Boston Consulting Group Joint Ventures is the latest new lease to be signed.
