Bays Precinct
The people of Sydney are being invited to have their say on the future of 80 hectares of land west of Sydney Harbour Bridge known as Bays Precinct.
Located on the harbour two kilometres from the CBD, Bays Precinct is a key part of the Sydney Harbour foreshore. It is bounded by the suburbs of Balmain, Rozelle, Lilyfield and Annandale to the north and west, and by Glebe, Ultimo and Pyrmont in the south and east. To the south, there are large areas of open space along the Glebe foreshore.
This 80-hectare site includes:
- Glebe Island
- White Bay
- White Bay Power Station
- Rozelle Bay
- Rozelle Rail Yards
- Blackwattle Bay, including Sydney Fish Market.
Bays Precinct is a diverse area used for maritime, working harbour, commercial maritime and mixed use activities, and also encompasses large areas of disused land.
The future of Bays Precinct is important to both the local community and Sydney's wider population. Future planning for the precinct needs to consider local needs, Sydney's maritime economy and the strengthening of Sydney's role as a global city.
The first stage of a two-stage consultation process has been launched to gather information and ideas which will be used to develop a set of draft principles to guide future planning in the area.
Comprehensive information including maps, background material, photographs and questions and answers are available under Related Information on this page.
Individuals, community groups, local businesses and councils are invited to have their say on the future of Bays Precinct, in particular White Bay, Glebe Island and White Bay Power Station.
