Our renewal role

IMAX

Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority works collaboratively with State and local government, industry groups and private sector investors to facilitate the NSW Government’s infrastructure and urban renewal strategy. Through coordination and delivery of major projects and activations, SHFA provides visitor, business and transport experiences worthy of iconic harbour locations. Current projects include the new International Convention Centre Sydney, IMAX theatre, office and function centre redevelopment and the Cockle Bay wharf renewal project.

Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority delivers vibrant visitor experiences, best practice heritage management and interpretation, and retail and commercial revitalisations that help attract more than 41 million visitors a year to the precincts and places it manages. A member of the Department of Premier and Cabinet’s major event committee, SHFA is integral to the delivery of State significant events, like Australia Day and New Year’s Eve, and delivers an annual program of events and activations in Darling Harbour and The Rocks.

    Luxury hotel coming to Darling Harbour

    Darling Harbour's newest hotel is under construction. The International Convention Centre Sydney Hotel will be Sydney's largest 5-star hotel and will open in 2017.

    Cockle Bay renewal

    Visitors to Darling Harbour will be able to get closer to the water under a planned project to renew the wharves and jetties in Cockle Bay.
    Plans for a $20 million renewal project, recently lodged for development approval, will replace ageing facilities, improve safety and provide better public access.

    SHFA's expertise in place making and visitor experience has received resounding public acknowledgement, with TripAdvisor Certificates of Excellence being awarded to the extraordinary places it manages. Darling Harbour, The Rocks and Circular Quay, The Rocks Discovery Museum and the Chinese Garden of Friendship have all received the award. Based on positive feedback posted on the travel site, the accolade is given to places and establishments that continually deliver a superior customer experience.

  • ANZAC Celebrations

    Centenary of ANZAC Commemorations

    During April and May 2015, SHFA proudly presented highly successful programs in Sydney’s pre-eminent heritage and cultural precincts, The Rocks and Darling Harbour, commemorating the national Centenary of ANZAC. At Darling Harbour, more than 13,000 people experienced the world debut of floating artwork Nomanslanding.

  • Interpretation Awards

    SHFA’s adaptive reuse of Australia’s oldest police station at 127–129 George Street, The Rocks, gained the National Commendation for Heritage in the prestigious 2014 Australian Institute of Architects National Awards. The Authority worked in conjunction with Welsh + Major Architects.
