Our Places
Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority is one of the biggest landowners in Sydney, with over 400 hectares of Sydney’s most significant waterfront locations.
Our key role is to be an expert ‘place maker’ – which means the responsible management of places in our care in social, environmental and financial ways. We strive to balance visitor, community and commercial expectations. In doing so, we also work to ensure the maintenance, security, preservation and interpretation of our natural and cultural heritage.
Our primary areas of care are The Rocks and Darling Harbour precincts. We also manage a range of properties on behalf of external clients, including:
- Circular Quay Wharf Retail
- King Street Wharf Promenade
- Blackwattle Bay
- Sydney Conservatorium of Music
We own several commercial businesses including:
- Chinese Garden of Friendship
- Darling Harbour car parks.

We have management agreements with commercial entities for the following major assets we own:
- Sydney Entertainment Centre
- Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Commercial assets are valued at approximately $493 million (36% of total assets). Semi-commercial assets are valued at $506 million (37% of assets). Total retail space within The Foreshore Authority's precincts exceeds 83,000 square metres and accommodates more than 500 tenancies including more than 100 restaurants and 14 international hotels.
At any one time we have a range of major projects underway in the area within our legislative boundaries. These can range from general maintenance issues to major capital works and area redevelopment. Visit Major Projects for more information.
Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority wants to ensure all visitors have reasonable access to, and within, its areas of care, primarily The Rocks and Darling Harbour. This principle is governed by the NSW Disability Services Act 1993 and while the Authority is committed to providing facilities as determined by law, it is equally focused on delivering a positive visitor experience within its precincts. If you would like to make a comment regarding access in and around The Rocks and Darling Harbour, please use the Contact Us form on this website.
