People and places: Pyrmont through time

By observing the built and natural environments, and examining historical photographs and maps, students can explore the reasons behind the changing demographic of the area and find out how it has weathered dramatic industrial and residential change.

The People and places program is based in Pyrmont and highlights the viewpoints and recollections of the local community to the industrialisation, de-industrialisation and subsequent urban renewal of the area.

people and placesOn the excursion, students note the location of a variety of past and present developments such as:

  • Pyrmont Bridge
  • Maritime Museum and Pyrmont Bay wharves
  • Union Square 
     

During the course of the excursion students will find out about the various impacts of these developments on the local population.
