Dirt Detectives

Location: The Big Dig Education Centre
For Years: 3-4
Key Learning Area: HSIE
Maximum: 60 per session
Program Duration: 120 minutes
Program Cost: $13.00 per student

Ball-and-chain shackles? Torn and filthy rags decorated with broad arrows? History books often describe horrific tales of the brutal punishment and agonising labour experienced by convicts in early colonial Sydney.

Students will work as archaeologists to excavate artefacts from our indoor archaeological dig, and use their investigative skills to discover what life was really like for the convicts who lived in The Rocks during the early years of the colony.

To assist you in getting the most out of the program and to maximise the experience for your students, Sydney Learning Adventures is creating a comprehensive Teachers' Resource Packs for this program. The pack will be available on this website from January 2010.
