Detectives with a difference
For Years: 3-4
Key Learning Area: HSIE
Maximum: 60 students per session
Program Duration: 120 minutes
Program Cost: $11 per student
Students use a collection of clues to solve the puzzle of whose possessions they have in their bag while visiting important historical sites and buildings and participating in biographical storytelling. Working in groups, they carefully examine artefacts to link belongings with lives of significant historical figures.
The context for the excursion is set with an introductory narrative and a ‘Who am I?' mystery posed by a SLA guide at the beginning. Students will also be encouraged to explore ‘material evidence' contained in a series of bags that may have belonged to a series of colonial characters. They will be guided in interpreting these ‘clues' to discover the identity of the bag's owner. A debriefing session will help students paint a picture of life in The Rocks during early settlement.
To assist you in getting the most out of the program and to maximise the experience for your students, Sydney Learning Adventures has created comprehensive teacher resource packs for each program.
