
Rozelle Bay
The site
- Rozelle Bay has a land area of around 8.5 hectares.
- The site is bounded by City West Link to the north, The Crescent to the west and the waters of Rozelle Bay to the south and east.
- The majority of land within Rozelle Bay is owned by NSW Maritime.
Its history
- Lands within Rozelle Bay were historically used for industries similar to those that inhabited Glebe Island.
- From the 1830s industries including tanneries, copper smelting, pig yards and tobacco works were located within the area.
- Major land reclamation occurred in the late 19th century and smaller jetties were removed to create deepwater berths.
- During the 20th century industries such as timber shipment were established to take advantage of the transport connections offered by the rail yards and Glebe Island Bridge.
Long term uses
- Commercial maritime and marine contracting uses will continue within Rozelle Bay in the long term.
- The majority of land within Rozelle Bay is being developed in accordance with the Rozelle and Blackwattle Bay Maritime Precincts Master Plan 2002.
- Land uses include marine contracting, salvage and repair, vessel repairs and maintenance, NSW Maritime safety and harbour cleaning fleets, a super yacht marina and dry boat storage centre.
